REGISTER NOW FOR THE MATTRESS FACTORY’S “FACTORY 500 EXCURSION: BACK TO BLOOMFIELD”
As June’s twilight fools us into believing that there are more hours in a day than usual, it’s likely you’re making use of that “extra” time while it’s still around. Before booking your calendar completely, consider registering for Mattress Factory’s “Factory 500 Excursion: Back to Bloomfield,” happening at BoxHeart Gallery and Trace Brewing, Pittsburgh PA, July 9, 2022, 1-4pm.
The Excursion is an exclusive, Mattress Factory members-event who will be given the opportunity to learn about the creative history and community of Pittsburgh’s Bloomfield neighborhood, from the very people and places that make it vibrant and vital.
Starting at 1pm, is a tour of BoxHeart Gallery’s unique space and concept by founders and owners, Nicole Capozzi, and artist, Joshua Hogan who for decades now have been *home* to some of Pittsburgh’s most beloved people and talent. Guests will have special access to view Hogan’s personal studio and works in progress at the gallery, as well as my exhibit, Without Interrupting the System, showing on its final day.
By 2pm, it’s off to Trace Brewing–a short walk from the gallery–to hear how brewery founder, David Kushner, established a taproom, (legal) graffiti wall and vocational program, all during the pandemic. (A feat that sounds so unbelievable, it has “artist” written, or “tagged” all over it!) The event ends with a brewhouse tour, followed by refreshments taken in at the Coolship Room and Beer Garden.
Tickets are limited, and must be registered in advance. For details, see the “Calendar of Events,” and like Mattress Factory’s permanent-installation artist, James Turrell, “greet the light” today, so that arts and public programming, can do so the whole calendar-year through, always.
